Bhubaneswar: The State Police headquarters on Friday transferred Inspector-in-Charge of Nilagiri police station Draupadi Das over the incident of cuffing a journalist to the hospital bed.
IG Police, Eastern Range Narasingha Bhol, who is supervising the probe informed that Das, as well as investigating officer in the Journalist’s case, Subarna Behera have been transferred.
The matter hogged headlines on Thursday, when pictures of a journalist, arrested by Nilagiri police in a case was chained to a hospital.
Earlier in the day, Bhol had termed the incident as unfortunate and illegal. “Matter has been taken very seriously, a DSP is heading probe. One Havildar suspended. If need be, action will be taken against IIC on basis of probe,” he stated.
The journalist was arrested over an altercation with a Home Guard and was admitted to the district headquarters hospital after he complained of uneasiness.
Till last reports came, the journalist has been shifted to the ICU after his condition deteriorated. His family and colleagues alleged that the scribe was assaulted by the police.
Odisha Human Rights Commission has taken suo motto cognisance and sought an explanation from the State police in this matter.
