Police Destroy 3,500 Kg Spurious Tea Leaves In Cuttack

Cuttack: Cuttack Sadar police today destroyed 35 quintals of spurious tea leaves.

Following court orders police in the presence of the Food Safety Officer buried the spurious tea leaves in a pit on the banks of river Kathjodi.

“In January a case was registered in this connection and two persons were arrested and forwarded to court. We had sent samples of the seizure for chemical examination and it was found that it is unfit for consumption (inedible). Following that we had made a prayer to the court for its destruction. The court allowed for destroying the seized stuff and it is being buried here,” informed ACP Zone IV Chandan Ghadei.

It is pertinent to mention here that the spurious tea leaves were seized by the police from a factory manufacturing spurious tea leaves in Mukameswar area near Gopalpur.

Police had arrested two persons in this connection and forwarded them to court.

The accused were also involved in the packing of adulterated tea leaves using labels of reputed brands.
