Bhadrak: Residents of Basudevpur in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Sunday detained seven persons taking them to be Bangladeshi nationals. The locals suspected that they had infiltrated into Odisha in the wake of the turmoil in Bangladesh.
According to reports, people became suspicious about the identity of the ‘unknown’ people when they spotted six persons de-boarding an auto-rickshaw near Atal Bihari High School. Suspecting their movement, the locals intercepted them and informed the police. Later, the Basudebpur police detained the six people.
A resident said, “When we asked them about their nationality, they said they are from Bangladesh. These people do not have any valid identity card issued by the Government of India.”
In another incident, locals detained a suspected Bangladeshi national at Nalabanka chhak under Nayakanidihi police limits and handed him over to the police in the district on Sunday.
A knife, a blanket and a mosquito net were reportedly recovered from him.
