Sundargarh: The Badgaon police recovered the body of a minor girl hanging from a tree in a forest near Kustuna village in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, the girl, a native of Itma village under Badgaon police limits, has been missing since Tuesday. When she did not return home in the evening her family members lodged a missing diary with the police. Local villagers spotted the girl’s body hanging from a tree on the outskirts of Kustuna and informed the police.
The police have, in the meantime, detained one person in connection with the incident and launched a search for two others believed to be involved with the girl’s rape and murder.
The detained youth reportedly confessed before the police that he and two friends took the girl to the nearby Kustuna forest and raped her by taking turns. Later, they strangled the girl to death and hanged her from a tree to make it appear as a suicide case.
Badagaon police have launched an investigation into the case.
