**Balasore:** A family has been rescued by Nilagiri police after 3-day-captivity from their house in Kantabania village on Tuesday. The family was held captive by their own villagers under Shyamsundarpur panchayat here under suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
The victims have been identified as Pratap Singh, his wife Lakshmi Singh and neighbour Suna Singh.
Reportedly, the three persons, including a couple and their neighbour, were allegedly attacked and detained by the villagers on Saturday. They even allegedly did not allow them to visit the hospital for treatment.
As per reports, the villagers were falling sick for the past couple of days and when they approached a sorcerer, he told them that these three were practising witchcraft and that is reason behind all the sickness.
After the witch-doctor’s oracle, the superstitious villagers first allegedly assaulted them and later held them captive inside their house.
After getting information, Nilagiri police reached the spot and rescued the trio.
