Bhadrak: In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, police seized 24 kg of smuggled ganja from the malgodown area near Charampa railway station in Bhadrak on Friday. The contraband is estimated to be worth over ₹3 lakh in the illegal market.
During the operation, the Special Squad detained four individuals — three women and one man — for questioning in connection with the smuggling racket. The police have launched a detailed investigation to identify other persons involved in the illegal trade.
Sources said the Charampa area has increasingly become a hub for illegal liquor and ganja trafficking. Several outsiders are reportedly involved in the trade, while some local smugglers allegedly supply the contraband to them.
Acting on specific inputs, the Special Squad conducted a raid in the goods godown area near the railway station and seized the large quantity of ganja. The detained individuals are currently being interrogated, and further raids may follow based on the information gathered during the investigation.
Following the police action, panic has reportedly spread among illegal liquor and ganja traders operating in the Charampa area.
Police officials said strict action will be taken against all those found involved in the illegal drug network.
