Bhubaneswar: Police seized Rs 10 lakh unaccounted cash during vehicle checking on the Boudh-Nayagarh border, on Monday when first phase polling was underway.
According to reports, police waylaid a vehicle coming from Boudh and seized Rs 10 lakh from the vehicle during checking. Police have detained three persons including its driver and two women in this connection after they failed to give any satisfactory answer to cops regarding to whom the cash belongs.
Earlier, police had detained seven persons and seized over Rs 27 lakh cash from their possession during vehicle inspection in separate incidents in Nuapada and Keonjhar districts on May 4.
Police intercepted a car on the way to Khariar Road from Padampur near Saipalla check gate in Nuapada. During the search, the cops seized Rs 4.89 lakh cash from the vehicle and detained two persons, Ranjit Singh Gandhi (52) and Chetan Kumar Saha (34).
Similarly in Khariar, three persons carrying illegal cash were detained during a vehicle inspection at the check post near Amlapali Chowk. Khariar IIC Pradeep Dharua said while Rs 1.31 lakh was seized from the possession of one Priyabrata Bhoi (20), Rs 95,500 was recovered from Akhil Agrawal (30) and Rs 69,000 from Mahesh Gurjar (26).
