Bhubaneswar: A Sub Inspector (SI) of Police posted at the Khandagiri police station here under Bhubaneswar Urban Police District and a private person have been arrested after being caught by officials of the Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a person (complainant).

According to an official press release issued by the Vigilance, Susanta Kumar Swain, SI of Police Khandagiri Police Station and a private person Chiranjiv Bala were caught red-handed by the officials of the anti-corruption agency while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant in a trap laid by the agency based on a complaint lodged by the complainant.

As per the direction of Swain, private person Bala received the bribe amount from the complainant and handed over the same to Swain at Naka gate square.

The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Swain and seized in presence of witnesses.

The right hand wash of Swain and both hands wash as well as the pant pocket wash of Bala gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by them.

Following the trap, Vigilance has launched simultaneous searches on the residential house of Swain at Ghatikia under Bharatpur police limits of the city and his house at his native village at Anujpur under Olatpur police limits in Cuttack district.

Swain and Bala have been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.

In this connection, Vigilance has registered a case under section 7 of the PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 and is under investigation.
