Bhubaneswar: A police sub-inspector was apprehended by vigilance officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 through UPI payment mode in Boudh district.
The accused police officer, Bikram Kishore Dehuri, sub-inspector of Baaunsuni police station of Boudh had demanded the bribe from Karunakar Naik of Babada village in the district.
The SI had demanded the illegal gratification to release a seized bike. He asked the complainant to pay the money through PhonePe.
According to reports Karunakar’s bike was seized by police in a case. He moved to court to get back the vehicle and the court had also directed the police to release the bike.
Despite the court’s order, the SI had demanded Rs 15,000.
Karunakar lodged a complaint with vigilance. Accordingly, the anti-graft agency laid a trap and apprehended the SI when the money was paid through phonePe.
The vigilance sleuths also carried out raids at his residence in PurunaKatak in disproportionate asset angle.
