Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch has arrested Muna Mohanty, the most wanted middleman in the Police SI recruitment scam, from Dasapalla in Nayagarh. Mohanty’s close associate, Sukant Maharana alias Rinku, and another aide were also arrested. The accused had been evading arrest, but the Crime Branch finally tracked them down.
According to the investigation, Mohanty and Maharana used to arrange candidates and send them to Andhra Pradesh by special buses, where they would allegedly obtain leaked question papers for the Combined Police Service Examination (CPSE) 2024.
Each aspirant had allegedly paid Rs 25 lakh for access to the question papers, with Rs 10 lakh as an advance and the remaining Rs 15 lakh after securing the job.
The case has been transferred to the Special Vigilance Court, and the court has ordered the Crime Branch to submit the case diary and all relevant documents. Out of the 119 arrested, 13 have applied for bail. The investigation is underway.
