Gajapati: A police vehicle (an SUV) overturned near Kradikupa village under Mohana police limits of Gajapati district today morning while chasing another vehicle involved in ganja smuggling was coming from Antarba side.
Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police LV Basupali who was travelling in the SUV and its driver have been grievously hurt in the accident.
While they were initially rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Mohana, they had to be shifted to MKCG Medical College & Hospital at Berhampur following deterioration in their health condition.
According to reports, the SUV overturned during the chase after its driver lost control of the wheel while negotiating a turn.
Mohana police had to use an earth mover to pull out the SUV.
