Puri: An Inspector of Excise of District Mobile Unit, Puri, has alleged that police are taking a monthly bribe from excise offenders in the district.
In a letter to Excise Commissioner Ashish Singh, Excise Inspector Sanjaya Kumar Panda stated that in the last one year he has found that whenever they arrest any excise offenders they said that they are giving huge monthly money to the Police Station staff and don’t care about the Excise staff.
As a result of this, fewer and small quantities of excise cases have been detected by the Police Station staff, added Panda.
“So as a responsible officer of the department, I feel very disregard and discourage while doing our duty with limited staffs, less salary, no vehicle, no quarter, no medals, no power or respect from public and status of yellow light in the vehicle as compared to the Police officers,” (SIC) he added.
Panda requested the Excise Commissioner to take necessary steps to stop such activities and the Excise staff should be awarded for their dedication, hard work, and honesty.
He also alleged that the police are taking undue advantage of the excise powers vested on them and extorting money from liquor traders, ganja mafia, and other excise criminals.
