Bhubaneswar: Balianta police foiled a dacoity bid by busting a racket of six persons near Ranga Bazaar under Balianta police limits on Sunday night.
As per the direction of Balianta Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) Kabita Nayak, a night patrolling team carried out a raid led by her at Ranga Bazaar Square when a group of six unscrupulous elements were busy hatching a dacoity plan near an isolated area near Ranga Bazaar Square. Seeing the police, the miscreants tried to give cops the slip but failed. Police arrested all of them while they were trying to flee the scene.
The accused, identified as Sambit Dakua Bapuna (30), Samir Nayak (22), Rama Swain (42), Sanjay Sahu alias Bhima (35), Somanath Behera aka Kalia (26) and Kalandi Mallick alias Kalu (25) were found assembled near an abandoned under-construction house, planning to commit dacoity using swords and knives. They confessed to having conducted a recce of the area on the previous night, a police official said.
He continued: “Sanjay Sahu, one of the accused, has a previous case registered against him under Balianta police station. The criminal antecedents of the other accused are being verified.”
The police seized several incriminating articles including a Bajaj Discover motorcycle, a Mahindra Max pickup vehicle, five mobile phones, two iron swords and one big iron cutter, two iron diggers, an iron chapad and an open chilli powder packet, a liquor bottle and three torch lights.
