Rourkela: A policeman was grievously hurt after being hit with an arrow fired by bootleggers at Tensa in Sundargarh district today.
Officer-in-charge of Tensa Police Outpost under Lahunipada police limits Ashok Kumar Behera was shot at with an arrow by bootleggers in his abdomen while he had gone to persuade bootleggers at Tensa Zero point to refrain from bootlegging, informed Rourkela Superintendent of Police, Mukesh Kumar Bhamu.
Behera was first rushed to the SAIL Hospital at Tensa and was later shifted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here as his condition deteriorated.
Doctors at IGH performed an emergency surgery on Behera and have been successful in removing the arrow from his body.
His condition was stated to be stable and he is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
Rourkela SP Bhamu said that stringent action will be taken against the bootleggers but their first priority was to save the life of their officer.
