Puri: Policemen, home guards, Jagannath Temple Police (JTP), and Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) personnel have been barred from carrying smartphones into the premises of Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri even during duty hours, informed Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh.
The decision was taken after pictures of Lord Jagannath inside the sanctum sanctorum recently went viral on social media platforms.
However, senior police officials deployed for special purposes and emergency services have been exempted, the Puri SP clarified.
Earlier since January 1, 2018 servitors of the temple have been barred from carrying smartphones inside the temple premises.
