Bhubaneswar: A political clash has sparked tensions in Dharamshala Assembly constituency, with both sides accusing each other of initiating the violence which occurred on Sunday.
BJD workers, led by former MLA Pranab Balabantray, staged a protest in front of the DG camp office, demanding the arrest of Dharamshala MLA Himanshu Sekhar Sahu. The protest follows a violent clash between two groups at a farmhouse in Dharmasala on Sunday.
The clash allegedly began when supporters of MLA Sahu attacked BJD workers, including women, who were holding a party meeting at Balabantray’s farmhouse. The BJD has issued a notice naming over 100 Sahu supporters, alleging that they abused and misbehaved with a woman.
Balabantray and his supporters have been protesting overnight, demanding strict action against the attackers. “We do not trust the district police. We will continue to protest until the accused are arrested,” Balabantray said.
Meanwhile, Sahu’s supporters protested in front of the Jenapur police station, claiming that Balabantray’s supporters initiated the violence. The police have lodged a complaint and are investigating the incident.
