**Bhubaneswar:** Politics in name of religion will not be tolerated and protested by the residents of Puri, said BJD’s assembly candidate from the constituency, Maheswar Mohanty, on Sunday.
The comment came in reaction to media queries regarding the alleged election rally of BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from the constituency, Sambit Patra, who had been noticed holding an idol of Lord Jagannath.
Mohanty said such strategy of Sambit will have no affect on the people as they have decided to vote for Naveen Patnaik. Besides, Sambit has himself called for victory to the BJD in the parliamentary constituency.
While Congress had on March 26 filed a complaint with the Election Commission claiming Sambit’s rally as a ‘religion-based’ campaign, Puri Collector-cum-District Election Officer had also on March 27 issued a show-cause notice to Sambit for taking out the rally without obtaining necessary permission.
