Poll Irregularities Case: High Court Quashes Congress MLA’s Petition Against BJD MP Bhaskar Rao

**Cuttack: ** The Orissa High Court on Wednesday quashed the petition of Dabugaon Congress MLA Bhujabala Majhi filed against BJD Rajya Sabha MP N. Bhaskar Rao to declare his election to the upper house of the Parliament null and void.

Besides quashing the petition, the High Court also slapped a penalty of Rs 20,000 on the Congress MLA for non-submission of petition copy to Rajya Sabha MP Bhaskar Rao.

Majhi had alleged that Rao furnished false information about his income in the affidavit submitted during filing of nomination.

According to Majhi, Rao in his affidavit had stated that he did not owe any dues to the Government.
Hence, the Dabugaon MLA had contended in his petition that Rao, on the contrary, had appealed to the Income Tax department to allow him to pay over Rs 40 lakh in instalments that he owed to the IT department during the same period.

In his reaction, Majhi told OMMCOM NEWS over phone, “I’m yet in receipt of the court order copy. After my lawyer will examine and decide the future course of action.”
