Bhubaneswar: BJP MLA candidate of Jharigaon Narasingha Bhatra was allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants in a polling booth in Nabarangpur district, on Monday.
Bhatra had filed a complaint with Jharigaon police in this regard.
According to the complainant Bhatra, he had gone to polling booth no-204 along with his accomplice after allegations of voter intimidation, booth capture and irregularities poured in. When he went to the polling booth, miscreants reportedly snatched his gold chain and MLA candidate identity card. That apart, the unscrupulous elements used derogatory remarks against him.
Bhatra also alleged that a few miscreants in a state of inebriation thrashed him. Bhatra has brought allegations of manhandling against as many as 20 miscreants.
According to reports, BJD workers present there came to the rescue of Bhatra.
On a tip-off, Jharigaon police inspector Tapan Kumar Pati rushed to the spot and rescued Bhatra.
In a separate incident, three persons including a woman sustained injuries due to a scuffle between BJP and BJD workers at Gopalpur election constituency.
According to sources, a scuffle broke out between both political parties when the saffron party workers opposed the entry of a few BJD workers to Golantara village. Arguments between the parties became so violent that it left three persons injured. A woman also got one of her legs fractured due to the scuffle between the leading parties. She was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
The injured have been identified as Santosh Das, and Kedar Sahu. However, the identity of the injured woman is yet to be ascertained.
