Boudh: A section of the under-construction tunnel on the Khordha-Bolangir railway line caved in this evening at Adenigada in Odisha’s Boudh district, causing a large crater to form on the surface.
The collapsed portion is part of a four-kilometre-long tunnel currently being built as part of the ongoing rail infrastructure project. The cave-in resulted in a 30-meter-wide crater on the ground, triggering initial fears that workers might have been trapped beneath the debris.
However, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) later issued a clarification confirming that no workers were present inside the tunnel at the time of the incident. There have been no reports of injuries or casualties.
“A minor soil caving in occurred this afternoon at Tunnel No. 4 on the Khurda-Bolangir Railway line, it is due to loose soil formation and continuous rainfall in the area. There has been no impact on manpower or machinery, and the incident will not affect the overall progress of the project. All necessary safety measures are in place, and work continues as planned,” said a clarification issued by the ECoR.
