**New Delhi:** As the people are rejoicing the fact that the conjoined twins have overcome the biggest hurdle and their ‘operation of separation’ has been conducted successfully, the doctors are keeping their fingers crossed hoping for great results.
According to Health Minister Pratap Jena, “The twins are steady now. But the next one month is still critical and sensitive for them. They are under medical supervision.”
However, Balia is doing better than his brother Jaga, who was not keeping well before the surgery, sources say.
“We have done the surgery but it is still a long journey for the children. It is the rarest of surgeries and all of us in team are positive and with prayers of millions of people in Odisha and country, we hope it will be successful,” said Dr Ashok Mahapatra.
Though the major part of separation has been completed, post-operative management still remains a concern for the doctors.
The AIIMS Delhi Director Randeep Guleria rightly said, “It’s a huge team effort and I’m very happy that the team we have at AIIMS worked together and they were able to successfully meet the challenge, because the challenge is not only removing the surgery, but also the subsequent cover that is required.”
Notably, this 16 hr surgery was carried by 20 surgeons and 10 anaesthetists. Apart from the help of 40 doctors, there were around 100 people involved in it including nurses, technicians, sweepers, orderlies and the men running the machines.
