Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Sunday spoke to his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee over the phone to resolve the potato crisis in the state. Majhi requested Banerjee to solve the problem of potato supply from West Bengal to Odisha.
The Chief Minister told Banerjee, “After discussions with you in Delhi, the supply of potatoes to Odisha had become normal. But after a few days, the problems of potato supply from West Bengal to Odisha resumed. There have been disruptions in supply of the tuber causing immense problems to the consumers in the state.”
Therefore, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi requested Banerjee to pay attention to this and take steps to solve the problem. In response, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has promised to take appropriate steps in this direction.
Meanwhile, reports said that while Odisha has been encountering a potato crisis for the last several days amid rising prices, West Bengal has reportedly installed CCTV cameras along its border to check the movement of trucks carrying consignments of the tuber through alternate routes.
Reports said that the West Bengal police have started installing CCTV cameras at certain locations along the borders with Odisha to restrict the movement of the trucks carrying potatoes.
The Bengal police have installed CCTV cameras at Nilada village on the border and trucks are also being prevented from entering Odisha at Laxmannath toll gate.
Residents of villages on the borders and traders claimed that CCTVs have reportedly been installed at six out of ten escape routes on the West Bengal border with 24×7 police patrolling, sources informed.
