Bhubaneswar: Members of various social organizations in Cuttack staged a protest on Friday, blocking vehicles carrying essential food items destined for West Bengal. The move was a response to the West Bengal government’s decision to halt potato supplies to Odisha, sparking tensions between the two states.
As per reports, protesters of different outfits gathered at 8 am at Manguli Chhak, launched an indefinite strike and held up traffic peacefully by not allowing vehicles carrying food items to West Bengal.
In the face of West Bengal’s decision to halt potato supplies to Odisha, protest organizers in Cuttack are emphasizing the need for collective responsibility and action. They believe that all stakeholders need to work together to mitigate the effects of the ban and find a solution to the crisis affecting Odisha residents.
The blockade was a peaceful protest against West Bengal’s alleged politically motivated move to stop potato supplies to Odisha. The protesters staged the agitation to highlight the plight of Odisha residents affected by the ban and push for a resolution to the issue.
It is pertinent to mention that to ease the potato crisis and make the tuber available to all consumers at an affordable price, the Odisha Government has decided to procure potatoes through NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd) and supply them to consumers at Rs 30 per kg.
