Bhubaneswar: Mass deaths of chickens have been reported from various poultry farms across Kendrapara district in Odisha, sparking concern among locals.
Sources reveal that a significant number of chickens have died in Balia panchayat of Derabis block, with similar incidents occurring in Ender, Narasinghpur, and Tilanga panchayats over the past two days.
In response, the district administration has initiated sanitization efforts at the affected poultry farms and is ensuring the proper disposal of dead chickens. Additionally, measures are being taken to prevent the transport of chickens and eggs from vulnerable areas into Kendrapada.
Health authorities have been instructed to maintain close coordination with other departments for early detection and reporting of any unexplained bird deaths, sources said.
The mass poultry deaths have raised fears of a potential bird flu outbreak, especially following the August outbreak in Pipili, where nearly 20,000 chickens were culled in Pipili and Satyabadi areas of Puri after similar incidents.
