Puri: The Animal Husbandry Department has imposed a three-month ban on poultry farming, especially in the bird flu-affected areas.
According to a directive issued by the Animal Husbandry Department, poultry farming will be closed in Pipili, Delang, Nimapada, and Satyabadi. All these areas witnessed death of hundreds of chicken following the outbreak of bird flu.
The notification further stated that poultry should not be farmed within 1 km of any infected area and poultry products should not be sent or sold within a radius of 1 km to 10 km. In addition, chicken samples will be tested once in 15 days and further measures would be initiated if the tests prove positive for H5N1 virus.
It is worth mentioning here that the Animal Husbandry department had sealed 55 farms out of 861 poultry farms in Pipili block and 64 farms out of 344 farms in Delang block following the outbreak of bird flu this year.
