Bhubaneswar: The poverty level has come down in Odisha, said Planning & Convergence Minister Padmanabh Behera in reply to a question of BJD legislator Prafulla Samal in the Assembly on Thursday.
As per data based on Tendulkar Methodology by the Planning Commission, the poverty level has come down from 57.2% in 2004-05 to 32.6% in 2011-12.
According to the headcount ratio under the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) of NITI Aayog, 29.35% of the population in Odisha is poor. But, the intensity of poverty i.e 46.42 % in Odisha is lower in comparison to the national level of 47.13%.
Major schemes to alleviate poverty such as providing financial assistance under Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM), KALIA, MAMATA, Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana; food grain supply at a discounted rate; financial empowerment of women through Dakshyata and Mission Shakti; cashless treatment under Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, employment opportunities under MGNREGA and MUKTA Yojana are noteworthy.
As a result, there has been a decline in absolute poverty in the State, said the Minister.
