Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a poor tribal man carried his deceased daughter’s body on a trolley-rickshaw for six kilometres from his home to the Baliapal Community Health Centre in Balasore district as he couldn’t afford an ambulance to transport her body.
According to reports, Madhu Bindhani’s daughter Nandini, a resident of Bindhanisahi under Baliapal police limits, had committed suicide by hanging herself from a rope for some unknown reasons.
Upon being informed, police rushed to the spot and seized the body. Police, however, asked the deceased’s father to take the body to the Baliapal Community Health Centre for a post-mortem.
A grieving father was forced to carry his deceased daughter’s body on a trolley rickshaw for nearly 6 kilometres to the hospital after being unable to afford the Rs 1,200 demanded by an ambulance driver.
With no other option, he borrowed the rickshaw from a villager and transported his daughter’s lifeless body to the hospital. Upon arrival, he was met with the additional demand for Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 for the post-mortem procedure, leaving him to plead for help from locals.
The heartbreaking scene was captured in photos that have since gone viral on social media, sparking public outrage.
Despite the widespread attention, police have not issued a formal statement on the matter.
