Bhubaneswar: Four days after resigning from Congress, former captain of Indian hockey Prabodh Tirkey today joined BJP at Amit Shah’s rally venue in Sonepur on Thursday.

He joined the saffron party in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, state BJP president Manmohan Samal, KV Singdeo and several senior leaders.

Tirkey was nominated by Congress as its candidate for Talasara Assembly constituency in Sundargarh district. Later, the party droped him from the list and announced the name of Debendra Bhitaria for Talsara seat.

Following this, Tirkey resigned from the Congress.

After Congress announced his candidature, he had started campaigning in Talsara. Party decision to drop him had shocked him. He said that no leaders had explained the reason of his removal from the list.
