Bhubaneswar: Former Minister and sitting MLA of Pipili Pradeep Maharathy was sent in judicial custody after his bail application was rejected by the Special Court here on Monday.
Maharathy was produced in the court of Additional District Judge after his case was referred to the Special Court by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Pipili.
The legislator is facing serious allegations pertaining to attack on an Executive Magistrate who was heading a flying squad on election duty.
The alleged incident took place at Maharathy’s farmhouse in Pipili on Sunday night. Today morning Maharathy was booked by the Pipili police and produced before the local JMFC court.
His counsel, Dibyalok Mohapatra said that Maharathy was not present at the farmhouse when the alleged incident occurred. “My client has been sent in custody and he will be adminsitered medical treatment there. If required Mr Maharathy would be shifted to Capital Hospital,” Mohapatra added.
The next hearing in this case has been scheduled on April 24, a day after the third phase polls in Odisha.
