Prahar Strikes Hard: Odisha Police Nab 157 In Major Drug Trafficking Crackdown

Bhubaneswar:  A total of 110 cases have been registered and 157 persons  arrested in connection with drug trafficking in Odisha. The arrests were made during a statewide crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse, dubbed ‘Operation Prahar’, which was launched by the Odisha Police from September 1 to 7.

During the operation, police across all districts conducted raids, resulting in significant seizures of narcotics. The police seized 4,808 kg of ganja, 2,374 grams of brown sugar, and 3,052 bottles of cough syrup. The operation has yielded positive results, with substantial quantities of narcotics seized and several individuals apprehended.

According to information provided by Odisha Police, during the operation 72 cases were registered against ganja trafficking, resulting in the seizure of 4,808 kg of ganja and the arrest of 93 persons involved in the cases. Similarly, 27 cases were registered against brown sugar trafficking, resulting in the seizure of 2,374 grams and the arrest of 45 persons. Additionally, 3,052 bottles of cough syrup were seized, and 19 persons involved in the trafficking were arrested.

Furthermore, action has been taken against 70 persons under Section 129 of the BNSS. Apart from this, 3 shops have been completely shut down due to their involvement in drug trafficking.

The Odisha Police’s efforts are part of the state government’s initiative to make Odisha drug-free and ensure a safer future for its citizens.
