Puri: Pratihari sevayats (servitors) will be deployed in front of the Singhadwar (Lions Gate) of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri to help prevent non-Hindus entry into the shrine.
These sevayats will help identify non-Hindus trying to enter the 12th-century shrine.
From Maha Bisubha Sankranti (April 14) two Pratihari sevayats will be deployed at the Singhadwar at the time of opening of the temple in the early morning and during the Sandhya Arati in the evening.
Later, Pratihari sevayats would be deployed for the whole day from the opening of the temple doors in the morning till its closing at night.
This was informed by Ram Narayan Gocchikar, Secretary of the Pratihari Nijog.
In earlier times, Pratihari sevayats were entrusted with protecting Lord Jagannath and Shree Jagannath Temple.
