Bhubaneswar: The Pravasi Odia Vikash Samiti (POVS) organised a discussion on Odisha Vision for 2036 and 2086 at Constitution Club in Delhi. While 2036 is for the ‘short-term’ development and expansion of the graph of Odisha. the Vision for 2086 is for the ‘long-term’ development and ensuring that Odisha becomes the Happiest State in India and leaves a global footprint better than developed nations like Denmark and Finland, said Justice Dipak Mishra, Former Chief Justice of India.
President POVS Surya Narayan Mishra presided over the meeting and said the immediate aim is to steer the State towards Ease of Doing Business along with focus on Sustainability as well as adoption of new technologies, especially Artificial Intelligence for quick development and later it should be pro-human and nature.
The triple goal of inclusion, diversity and development can only be brought by focusing on Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas by ensuring that modern practices are adopted in line with traditional and cultural ethos and Odisha was a great trading state in past and will be a very strong state in contributing to the GDP to the Nation.
Amar Patnaik, MP said the hoslitic healthcare and education need to be provided in a mission manner.
Food, Nutrition and Agriculture: In the technical discussion focused on Odisha’s Agriculture, food and nutrition; JN Swain, Secretary, Fisheries, Govt of India emphasised on the potential of the fishery and aquatic industry in state and how the farmers can have access to better seed, practices , technology and market linkage.
The industry expert Aditya Dash added the vision and possibilities for enhancing, production, enterprise and business opportunities and making Odisha the focal country in global map for aquaculture and aquatic products. Dr Pawan Kumar Agrawal ex-Vice Chancellor OUAT and current Scientist with ICAR said that the state needs to focus on integrated and inclusive models and approaches focusing on food system.
More focus should be directed towards diversification, modern technology, varieties, mechanization, and use of emerging digital technology for better market linkage and decision support. Moving towards organic farming, traditional methods to ensure greener agriculture along with high nutritional productivity should be also our vision, said Dr Agrawal.
Dr Basanta Kar, popularly known as the Nutrition Man of India said , we have to give adequate nutrition to all. Odisha must made be an ideal state ensuring nutritional diversity, security and creating role models and institutions for others to follow. The session was moderated by Dr Swati Nayak, Scientist, International Rice Research Institute, who summarised critical way forward and recommendations from panelist to make the state empowered in the domain of Agriculture, food and nutrition.
Sef restraint is required and our focus must be for sustainable growth told by Santosh Sarangi , DGFT. Mahant Raju Das, Hanauman Gadi Ayodhya told Odisha being the spiritual capital, Spirituality Facilitation must be done for arranging areas and services in order to move towards the goal of awakening and ultimately moksha. Steps to be taken to imbibe it into the society.
Ranjan Mohapatra , Director IOCL said the future energy is more natural and Odisha has ability for Resource Utilization. Shri K K Nayak, CEO Kiri Group said Odisha is extremely rich with natural resources. Need to develop policies and practices to ensure optimum utilization of the same and contribute to the Indian GDP in the highest possible manner. Additionally, sustainable practices to be followed in order to ensure that inter-generational equity is maintained and uses of the resources is with restraint.
Rajesh Mohapatra gave emphasis on Inclusive Development- Inclusion of people from all strata of society from weaker sections to well-off sections, for a more equitable distribution of resources.
Women & Child Development- Focus on the strong family system and take measures to strengthen the family unit along with empowering women and children. Recognize that women contribute equally as men to the development and sometimes even more- Aim of a Sashakt Odisha.
Promotion of Organic Farming to ensure that the Children specially get the unadulterated food and growth of children is not stunted. Focus on increasing the jungle and forest cover among the already present land by way of afforestation and environmental conservation techniques told by Surjit Bhujabal , Principal Director General, DGRI.
Focus on ensuring that family members are not pressured into migrating to other cities for the purpose of employment or housing. Housing system to focus on upward building instead of expanding into forest areas and other areas. Entrepreneurs to be encouraged to bring back the brave spirit of historical Odisha which has already been filled with brave men and women like the undefeated Kalinga Kingdom.
Sports- Focus of the youth and children on playing traditional as well as modern sports. Already Odisha has registered its name in sports like wrestling, weightlifting and hockey. Most people in Puri have the ‘Chhapan Inch’- very strong physically. If people are encouraged they can bring numerous laurels for the state.
