Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu laid the foundation stone for three new railway lines in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday, marking the final day of her five-day visit to the state.

The event took place at Bangiriposi railway station, where President Murmu green-lit the construction of three new railway lines: Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani, Buramara-Chakulia, and Badampahar-Kendujhargarh routes.

These new lines will connect the tribal-dominated districts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar to other parts of Odisha, boosting industrial and tourism development in these mineral-rich regions. The railway projects are expected to create more job opportunities and ensure socio-economic development in the areas.

Notably, three new railway lines in Odisha have been approved, with estimated costs of Rs 2,549 crore for the 86-km Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani line, Rs 2,106 crore for the 82-km Badampahar-Kendujhargarh line, and Rs 1,639 crore for the 60-km Buramara-Chakulia line.

In addition to the railway projects, President Murmu also virtually inaugurated a Tribal Research and Development Centre in Rairangpur and laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of the Dandbose airport and the construction of a new block at the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital via video conferencing.
