Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to attend Ravenshaw University’s 13th annual convocation today as the chief guest, marking the second day of her two-day visit to Odisha.
On the first day of her visit, the President participated in the fifth convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.
Today, she will preside over the convocation at Ravenshaw University, where the Governor, Chief Minister, Union Education Minister, and State Higher Education Minister are also expected to be present.
The university campus has been specially decorated in honour of the President’s visit, with the iconic Seven Pillars of Wisdom and the main entrance adorned to welcome her. Upon arrival, President Murmu will be welcomed by the Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries before proceeding to the assembly hall. Following a ceremonial guard of honour, the event will commence with the singing of the national anthem.
During the convocation, President Murmu will confer degree certificates and gold medals to meritorious students. Additionally, four eminent personalities will be honoured with honorary doctorates. The Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) will oversee security and logistical arrangements, with live telecasts arranged in five halls to accommodate guests.
Apart from the convocation, President Murmu is slated to lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three buildings at Ravenshaw Girls’ High School in Cuttack. Later, she will participate in the birth anniversary celebrations of Adikabi Sarala Das and present the prestigious Kalinga Ratna Award 2024.
In view of the President’s visit, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory, urging commuters to plan their routes accordingly and use alternate roads to minimise disruption.
