Prisoner Ties Knot With Girl Who Had Jailed Him In Balasore

Balasore: An undertrial prisoner in the Balasore District Jail tied the knot with his lover, who happens to the one who put him behind bars, at the nearest Radha Krushna temple here on Monday.

Reportedly, Debiprasad Mishra (32), a resident of Mantapada village in Rajkanika block of Kendrapara district, was working as the manager of Luminous Power Technologies in Balasore.

The company also employed Nagma Parveen, a young woman from the Muslim community. The girl’s home is in Rupsa area under Basta police limits of the district.

The two fell in love while working together in the same company and a physical relationship was established between them. Debiprasad was renting a house at Angargadia under Industrial Area Police Station. Nagma also rented a house at Angargadia.

Their love affair lasted for three long years. However, Debiprasad’s brother did not agree to their marriage as Nagma belonged to the Muslim community.

As Debiprasad did not proceed with their relationship despite Nagma repeatedly asking him to marry her, she lodged a complaint at Industrial Area Police Station alleging Debiprasad has raped her.

Based on the complaint, the police filed case No. 119/20 and arrested Debiprasad on September 20, 2020, and forwarded him to court. He has been in jail ever since.

In December 2020, Nagma contacted advocate Prashant Nanda and filed a petition before a local court expressing her interest in converting to Hindu.

After conversion, she changed her name to Mamuni Panigrahi following which the marriage was solemnised with full Vedic rituals as per the instruction of ADJ (II), Balasore, Subash Kumar Behari.

The wedding was attended by police, jail officials, lawyers from both sides, and family members. The newly-wed couple also received a marriage certificate.
