Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Private Bus Owners Association today announced to go on an indefinite strike from October 10.
Bus owners took the decision to protest the Government’s LAccMI (location accessible multimodal initiative) scheme. It was decided at a meeting of the owners’ association today.
Buses will go off the road in undivided Koraput district on October 2 as the bus service under LAccMI scheme is scheduled to begin from Malkangiri, Association secretary Debendra Sahu said.
“We have requested the government to take our vehicles instead of procuring new buses under LAccMI scheme; so that our business would not be hampered. But the government did not pay heed to our demand, which forced us to hold a state-wide strike,” Sahu said.
The agitation will continue until the government formulates a clear policy on LAccMI and Mo Bus schemes, he added
The government scheme will facilitate assured and affordable transportation for people across the state. It was approved by the State Cabinet headed by CM Naveen Patnaik recently.
