Bhubaneswar: A team of investigating officers, including a woman Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Balanga police station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) recorded the statement of the Balanga victim at AIIMS Delhi, informed Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra today.
Speaking to media persons, SP Mishra said, “The investigation into the case is now in its final stages, with the police examining thoroughly the circumstances and motive behind the incident. As the probe nears completion, all legal aspects are being meticulously examined to ensure a thorough and just outcome.”
“Given the survivor’s ongoing medical treatment, the police are proceeding with caution and sensitivity. The victim’s statement will be recorded in the presence of a magistrate, as directed by the local court in Delhi. After the statement is recorded, the police will make the details of the case public, revealing the circumstances surrounding the incident,” added Mishra.
Notably, the horrific incident occurred on July 19 in the Balanga area of Puri district, where three unidentified miscreants on a motorcycle attacked a minor girl. The attackers allegedly tied a handkerchief around her face, poured kerosene on her, and set her on fire. Despite severe burn injuries, the girl bravely escaped and sought shelter at a nearby house.
The alert villagers quickly rushed her to the Pipili Community Health Centre, from where she was shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment. Due to her critical condition, she was later moved to AIIMS Delhi for further care and treatment.
The incident has sent shockwaves in the area, and the police are working to apprehend the culprits.
