Sundargarh: Ahead of Durga Puja on the occasion of International Daughters Day, Sundargarh Police launched a new initiative Project “DURGA”, Sashakt Sundargarh, Surakshit Sundargarh. This project is aimed at capacity and confidence building of the young girls of Sundargarh to make them independent and ready to face the world of tomorrow.
The three major aspects tel this initiative are:
1. Self-defense training for girl children of standard 8 to 10.
The program will be initiated with the participation of 300 girls from various schools of Sundargarh. The children will be trained in basic self-defense techniques, which they can use in case of any immediate emergency. This would include escape from hand grabs, hair grabs, neck grabs, dupatta pulling so on and so forth. This training will further continue in 20 other identified schools of Sundargarh in close coordination with the respective school authorities. The program is aimed at Increasing self-confidence among the girl child in order to help them react faster and in a more confident way in adverse situations.
2. Launch of “NAARI HELPLINE.
A dedicated 24X7 helpline number is being launched for reporting incidents of harassment and eve-teasing, especially inside and near schools and colleges. This dedicated number will be handled by a female staff by which the complainant/victim can freely communicate any issue. Any incident of sexual harassment, abuse, leaking of indecent photos/videos, etc. may be directly reported to the police via this helpline for swift and prompt action. This helpline will be circulated in all schools, colleges, girls hostels, ladies hostels, swadhaar gruhas, etc of Sundargarh district to increase the direct reach of public to police.
3. Introduction to various kinds of career opportunities in the “Ask me anything” session.
A special professional guidance session has been organized on 27.9.22 at 10:30 AM where the girl child can directly interact with career professionals and explore the opportunities available to her. Professionals from various spheres will be directly interacting with the girls answering their questions and encouraging them to take up a career to promote economic independence.
