Bhawanipatna: A gas tanker overturned on NH-16 near Pastipada in Karlapada area in the district on Sunday morning. Locals panicked as gas started leaking from the ill-fated vehicle following which Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot.
The tanker was heading towards Raipur from Bhawanipatna when the driver lost control on the wheels because of dense fog, reports said. The incident led to a road jam as the perimeter was sealed by the rescue teams.
Sustained efforts by the Fire Service personnel checked any untoward incident and the gas leakage was stopped. To avoid any untoward incident, electricity supply in the nearby areas was disconnected and locals have been advised not to cook.
Movement of vehicles resumed by 9:30 am after the gas leakage was checked completely and the tanker moved off the highway.
