Bhubaneswar: Instituted with the noble aim of transforming govt. and govt. aided schools of the state, Mo School Abhiyan, incepted by the Govt of Odisha on 14th Nov 2017, will celebrate the fifth year of its foundation on 14th November this year. In this regard, decisions have been taken in the 36th Executive Council of Mo School to organise various events at the state and district level to commemorate the event.
Aswathy S, Commissioner cum Secretary, S&ME Department chaired the meeting held here on Tuesday. The council decided to lay emphasis on promoting service volunteering at the school level with the aim to connect a greater number of alumni under Mo School Abhiyan. The alumni members will pose as the source of inspiration and guide the young generation through their skills, expertise and interest. The former will facilitate a healthy and conducive environment to interact with the latter to help them build a better future.
The District Collectors and Mo School district level committees will roll out the alumni engagement campaign. To make the 5-year celebration even more joyous, Mo School will organize programmes in the state level children festival ‘Surabhi’ wherein students will avail the opportunity to interact with eminent personalities from different walks of life through ‘Meet The Personality’session.
Proposals worth ₹769.70 crores from 29 districts have been approved in the Executive Council. Within the past two months, 20,370 alumni have joined hands with Mo School Abhiyan and have contributed ₹11.48 crores for the development of their alma mater.
Mo School Abhiyan has received grants worth ₹248.25 crore from various CSR funds. Coupled with the donors’ contribution, CSR funds and a 2X matching grant from the state govt., the Executive Council has approved projects worth ₹769.70 crores which will be availed in the development of the 3465 primary, upper primary and high schools across the state. The alumni have contributed ₹5.48 crores in Balasore, ₹1.38 crores in Jagatsingpur, ₹67 lakhs in Cuttack, ₹39.79 lakhs in Bhadrak, ₹33.30 lakhs in Mayurbhanj and ₹24 lakhs in Kendrapara districts respectively. Till date, 7.05 lakh alumni have been connected with Mo School Abhiyan.
‘Infrastructure Stabilisation Programme’, a 90-day special drive has been initiated to make function of all facilities provide to the schools transformed in the first and second phase of High School Transformation Programme. Schools have been instructed to submit the progress report by 10th November 2022.
Complying to the previous decision, SHG members have been entrusted with the cleaning and security of high school campuses, which were transformed the 5T initiative.
As per the decision of 36th Executive Council, Self Help Groups will be trained as service providers for regular maintenance of the assets created under High School Transformation programme. Under the pilot ‘Aspirational Programme’ for 300 high schools, emphasis will be laid on coding, 21st century skills, project-based learning and school excellence programmes to bring innovations in school ecosystem. Trainings on conducting science practical will also be imparted to the teachers of the transformed schools by DIETs in collaboration with Odisha Vigyan Academy.
