Cuttack: Tension gripped the silver city on Saturday as protests erupted all over Cuttack. The public dissent occurred as Cuttack-Barabati MLA Muhammad Moquim was not invited to the annual preparatory Durga Puja meeting organized by the Commissionerate Police.
Members of several puja committees came together on Saturday to protest against the Cuttack DCP Akhileshvar Singh. DCP’s effigies were burnt as the committee members demanded Singh be transferred for causing disrespect to the public representative.
Youth Congress member Mohammad Aleem said, “Cuttack is known for its brotherhood and religious harmony, we still resolve our issues in presence of our elders. Non-Odia DCP has failed to understand our city’s fabric of society. Muhammad Moquim being the sitting MLA should have been invited to this meeting. His opinion should have been considered as he is a people’s elective. We demand DCP’s resignation.”
When asked what step would Youth congress take if DCP Singh did not resign, Aleem retorted by saying, “Entire Cuttack is saddened by this rash act of Commissionerate Police. We will be forced to take a drastic step.”
