Bhubaneswar: With rumour about a possible Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) case in the Kaipadar area of Khordha doing rounds, Public Health Director Dr Nilakantha Mishra cleared the air by saying that there are no confirmed cases of HMPV in the state.
Speaking to the media, Mishra emphasized that all samples sent for testing have returned negative for HMPV, and there’s no reason to panic.
Dr Mishra clarified that HMPV symptoms are similar to common cold and flu, including fever and mild respiratory issues. He urged citizens to remain calm as there have been no confirmed cases of HMPV in the state, and no reports of people being infected by the virus from any regions. The Health Department is closely monitoring the situation to ensure preparedness.
He reassured that there is no need to fear about the outbreak as the number of affected individuals remains low.
It’s worth noting that HMPV is a moderately transmissible respiratory virus that can pose serious risks to young children, and the elderly. The public is advised to follow basic preventive measures, such as maintaining hygiene, wearing masks, and seeking medical attention for respiratory symptoms.
