**Bhubaneswar:** Despite issuing of several advisories against online frauds, Twin City Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said today that the public is still falling prey to the cybercrimes because they are not paying heed to the warnings.
“Online scams cannot be denied or ignored for which Odisha Police and Crime Branch have issued multiple cautions and warnings against them. The advisories that we issue have detailed measures on how to detect an online scam and how to stay away from them,” said Mohanty.
“However, if people are still falling prey to the scams, then they should be more aware and follow our recommendations properly”, he added.
Mohanty explained, “The public being more alert does not mean that the police is trying to run away from dealing with cybercrime. The responsibility of the investigation obviously lies with the police when any case is reported. But the number of cases can definitely come down if people follow our advisories properly.”
He concluded by saying that a cyber-component comes into the picture when online frauds are reported which is why the probe becomes more extensive and difficult, but preventive measures should be taken by the denizens to be more cognizant on what they are clicking.
