Bhubaneswar: The sole accused in the sensational Patnagarh parcel bomb blast case, Punjilal Meher, has been admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir due to his serious health condition. Meher, who is serving a life sentence, was on hunger strike in Balangir jail before being shifted to the hospital yesterday.

The development comes after Meher’s health reportedly deteriorated due to his prolonged hunger strike in jail. His treatment is currently underway at the medicine ward of Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital.

Meher was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Additional District Judge (ADJ) court in May this year. The Crime Branch had taken over the investigation on March 23, 2018, and arrested Meher in April 2018. He is currently lodged in the Patnagarh sub-jail.
