Bhubaneswar: Puri District Collector Chanchal Rana expressed hope for the speedy recovery of a 16-year-old girl who was set ablaze by three bike-borne miscreants at Bayabara village under Balanga police limits in Puri district.
The Collector assured that the district administration and government would provide all necessary assistance to the victim who is currently undergoing treatment at the Burns Unit of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar.
Speaking to the media, Rana said, “We were informed about a distressing incident at Nimapara block under Balanga police station. We have talked AIIMS doctor looking after her treatment. Accordingly, arrangements for trauma and emergency care have been made at the institution. Puri police and district administration are taking this matter very seriously, with senior officials dispatched to the scene. The district administration and government will cover all necessary financial assistance. We wish for her speedy recovery, and the police will take all required actions to nab the accused.”
Notably, the incident occurred on Saturday morning when the girl was walking to her friend’s house in Bayabari village under the Balanga police station.
According to eyewitnesses, three bike-borne youths intercepted the girl, poured a flammable substance on her, and set her ablaze before fleeing the scene. Locals rushed her to Pipili hospital, from where she was shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar due to the severity of her injuries.
