Puri: Aiming at igniting the spirit of Pride of Puri while taking participation and collaboration to the next level through a series of activities which promotes greater involvement of the citizens, Puri district administration is all set to kickstart a week-long sanitation immersion programme with the objective of bringing around all the citizens to become part of the “Mo Dham Mo Garba” campaign and also to understand and appreciate the spirit of “Mo Dham Mo Kaam”.
The week-long campaign from tomorrow (November 1) calls for removal of legacy waste, adopting segregation of waste, pledge of purity, clearing and beautification of the garbage vulnerable spots.
Briefing media today, Puri Collector Balwant Singh said, “If we have gained international recognition for the sea beach, why not for the city in sanitation. Our Dham is beautiful and we should take a pledge to make it more beautiful than others, be it Kashi or Dwarika or Badrinath or Rameshwaram or Ujjain. This trust is ours due to the cooperation of all our people here. We have the opportunity of being a Dham and can’t be neglected or avoided by any authority. The size of our city is also small in comparison to Cuttack or Bhubaneswar or Delhi or Chennai. Hence, we can do whatever we need.”
Prior to the launch from tomorrow, visioning exercise related meetings have already been conducted with people across key sectors as well as stakeholders. These meetings by Municipal Authority focused on making Puri Dham carve out a niche for itself in the international map with a 100% sanitation and cleanliness with direct and emotional involvement of people from all walks of lives, a press release said.
The plan is to mobilise the masses for their support and involvement in cleaning their offices, households and workplaces. The emphasis will be on the dignity of Safai Karamcharis and respecting them, it added.
The week-long immersion programme under ‘Mo Dham, Mo Garba’ Abhijan from November 1 to 8 will focus on reaching all stakeholders-unreached sections of society, the students followed by influential leaders who will be sensitised and then analyse the sanitation situation of their own lanes and home.
