Puri Illegal Sand Mining Turns Ugly, Group Clash Kills One

Puri: An illegal sand mining took an ugly turn when it became a clash between two groups resulting in one person’s death at Korua Chaka under Puri Sadar police station here on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Bela Biswal alias Tulu of Kanthapur village.

Reports suggest that two sand mafias hailing from Kanthapur and Golasahi respectively were always at loggerheads regarding illegal mining. On Wednesday the clash turned ugly when the group from Golasahi attacked Tulu with sharp weapons, said police reports. He suffered grievous injuries and succumbed later.

Puri SP Umashankar Dash, DSP Khirasagar Nayak, Sadar Police station IIC Debasish Mishra are at the spot and are inspecting the scene. An additional force has been deployed in the area for maintenance of law and order.
