**Bhubaneswar: ** The sensitive issue of ritual delay and irregularities in Puri Jagannath Temple on Monday dominated Odisha Assembly even for the second consecutive day on Wednesday following which the Speaker had to adjourn the House proceedings first till 11.30 am and then till 12.50 pm.
Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat had to convene an all party meeting in his official chamber in a bid to resolve the deadlock.
As the uproarous scene persisted, Speaker was bound down to adjourn House for third time till 4 pm.
Soon after the House assembled for the day, main opposition Congress legislators created ruckus over Puri Srimandir rituals delay and ‘bhog’ compensation row between the ‘sebayats’ (temple servitors) and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
In his media reactions on Wednesday, Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati burst, “For consecutively two days Lord Jagannath and His siblings are hungry. The State Government is least bothered about it. That’s why Assembly has been disrupted. Until ‘bhog’ is not offered to the Lord, we won’t allow the Assembly to run.”
Senior BJD MLA Damodar Rout said, “So far Mahaprahbhu’s Monohi is concerned, the decision is exclusively taken by Shankaracharya and Gajapati. SJTA chief is unable to comment or take a decision on it. Any ritual irregularities are being looked into and solution process is on. Today, ‘Bhog’ has been offered and ‘Abhada’ has also been served to the devotees. Such happenings with Lord Jagannath is really unfortunate and condemnable. But it should be politicised and raised on poltical pandal.”
The same din on Tuesday in the Assembly had also marred the Question Hour and the Speaker had to adjourn the House repeatedly.
Both Congress and BJP members resorted to pandemonium condemning the incident and also demanded action against those responsible for forcing the deities go hungry and sleepless and thus severely hurt the sentiments of the devotees worldwide.
Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra on Tuesday had raised the issue during the Question Hour in a bid to draw the attention of the State Government. Opposition is demanding a detailed discussion on the issue.
On the contrary, State Government argues that such issue should not be politicised. Whatever has happened is unfortunate and condemnable.
Government is well aware of it. Action has been initiated as per the Jagannath Temple Act and efforts are on for a solution to the ongoing stir and irregularities.
