Puri: All three tourists who were trapped in Samrat Hotel located on the Bada Danda in Puri, have been rescued after an hour-long intense operation by a team of fire service personnel. According to reports, the three tourists, all belonging to Nasik, were rushed to Puri District Headquarters Hospital and are under medical supervision.
The fire started at a garment store in Laxmi Market Complex and within minutes the entire building which also houses the hotel was engulfed in the smoke billowing out of the blaze. Prompt action by fire personnel equipped with at least six fire tenders resulted in no loss of lives.
At least two fire service personnel fell sick out of suffocation during the rescue operation and are undergoing treatment. The condition of all the tourists, and rescue personnel is stated to be stable, reports stated.
Sources said the three tourists were part of a huge group which had come to Puri from Nashik for Jagannath Darshan. Fortunately, the majority of tourists had gone out for dinner and only about three women had stayed back in the hotel today evening when the mishap occurred.
