Puri: The Puri Police today launched a novel concept with the enrolment of cyber volunteers.
Enrollment of cyber volunteers was launched at an awareness meeting for hotel owners, travel agents and tourists on the prevention of cyber fraud in hotel booking at the Sea Beach police station area, said an official press release of the Puri Police.
In the first phase, hotel owners, managers, and travel agents have been enrolled as cyber volunteers under the initiative. Since they are the first point of contact with tourists, they have been requested to act as cyber volunteers, the release added.
These cyber volunteers will immediately intimate the Tourist Helpline number of Puri Police when any complaint/grievance related to booking by tourists, or any issue of a fake website is brought to their notice.
They will act as a bridge between local police and tourists from all over India.
A dedicated team of the Puri Police will contact the concerned tourist quickly, where ever he/she is in India, assure legal help and start enquiry under the supervision of senior officers.
The police have requested all hotels to put stickers on reception centres creating awareness of the issue.
The Puri Police has also requested all citizens/tourists to report any suspicious activity to the Puri District 24×7 Tourist helpline number 6370-967100.
About 30 members of the Hotel Owners Association and about 10 travel agents, General Manager SBI Main Branch Puri, and the general public participated in the meeting.
